Sustainable Home Design By Australian Architect Andrew Maynard

Sustainable Home Design by Australian architect Andrew Maynard brought the hill to this cool raised house near Melbourne - a region that is known for being largely flat. This artificial mini mountain raises the home to new heights - literally and architecturally speaking. This addition to the original house looks toward the main structure, but by virtue of being raised, enjoys unobstructed views of surrounding gardens and treetops. An industrial-style spiral staircase at the center of the space is the piece de resistance. It faces the sun, and the upper volume acts as the passive solar eave that blocks out the sweltering summer sun while letting warming winter sun flood in to naturally warm and brighten interiors.
